Kabul: COAS to take part in trilateral talks today
KABUL - Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif is due to visit Kabul on Monday (today) to participate in the trilateral talks between Pakistan, Afghanistan and the International Security Assistance Force.
Afghan Defence ministry spokesman, Gen Zahir Azimi said the trilateral talks will be held in the ministry. He further added that this will be the 37th trilateral talks between Pakistan, Afghanistan and the International Security Assistance Force (IAF).
The tripartite commission talk comes as tensions flared up between Islamabad and Kabul due to cross-border fire exchange last week. Afghanistan on Thursday accused Pakistan for violating a trilateral agreement by attempting to set up military installations along the Durand Line which resulted into clashes between Pakistani and Afghan forces.
Interior ministry of Afghanistan following a statement said the Pakistani security forces were looking to dig ditches in a bid to set up bunkers within the zero-point area which is a clear violation of the trilateral agreement between Pakistani, Afghanistan and Nato. Based on the trilateral agreement, setting up military installations within four kilometres of the zero-point is prohibited, interior ministry said, alleging that the Pakistani forces were looking to act against the agreement during the past few days.
