Closed Capital school to reopen
ISLAMABAD - On the protests of inhabitants of Soan Garden area of the federal capital and civil society against the closure of a primary school, the Federal Directorate of Educating (FDE) has pledged to open the school from July 1.
Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) in collaboration with Iqra Ehsan Social Welfare Trust had organised a peaceful demonstration against the closure of a primary model school in Soan Garden on 16th June. On the occasion, a petition signed by more than 200 people including the community, civil society, parliamentarians and youth activists was also presented.
Ehsan-ul-Ihsan, chairman of Iqra Welfare Trust, shared the history of this school and the fact that even after three earlier protests, the school remained non-functional for more than three years.
The well-known human rights activist Tahira Abdullah was also an active participant of the protest and asserted the utter injustice was being done with the poor children of Soan Gardens. Ayesha Bilal (representative from ITA) shared facts on present status of education depicted by the Annual Status of Education Report, 2013, and affirmed that the closure of this school is a complete violation of article 25-A.
