ECP meeting cancelled due to sit-ins

ISLAMABAD - A meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which was scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the situation arising in the wake of a string of allegations against it, was cancelled due to the sit-ins on Islamabad’s Constitution Avenue.
According to sources, the meeting was cancelled because members and senior ECP officials were unable to make it for the meeting on account of closure of roads. A meeting on the current situation will soon be called, sources added. The meeting was expected to focus on the allegations levelled against the ECP by Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan. It was also expected to review allegations in connection with the additional printing of ballot papers. The announcement of the meeting had come a day after a former additional secretary of the commission alleged that returning officers for the 2013 general elections had been appointed and controlled by then CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
