Govt notifies BoG for 26 colleges
 
 
 
LAHORE - The Punjab government has notified the formation of Board of Governors of 26 colleges granted administrative and financial autonomy in order to better implement the 4-year BS (Hons) programme in various disciplines of Science, Arts, Commerce and IT.
The BoG has been constituted under the Education Reform Ordinance 1960, amended in 1984 and 2002, promulgated by Governor Punjab Salman Taseer the other day. The BoG for each college will comprise 14 members headed by the Education Minister as its Chairman, six senior government officials including the Higher Education Secretary, Finance Secretary, vice-chancellor of the university to which the college is affiliated, Director Education (Colleges), DCO, Principal of the college concerned. Other members are drawn from eminent old students, media men, academicians, philanthropists and social scientists.
The government has notified BoGs for the six colleges, three boys and three girls, in the City including Government Islamia College Civil Lines, Government MAO College, Science College Wahdat Road, Government College for Girls Samanabad, Government College for Girls Gulberg and Government Islamia College for Girls Cooper Road.
Besides the six government members, the BoG of MAO College for example comprised Pervaiz Meer, Dr Shahzad Hassan, Director PU Physics Department, philanthropist Ch M Riaz of Al-Hadeed Steels, Razi Abbas, Professor Emeritus PU, Sajjad Ali Shah ex-minister, Justice (r) Sakhi Bokhari, Col (r) Iqtidar Ali and Prof Syed Irfan Hussain Zaidi.
The rules and regulations for the BoGs working are being framed and will be notified the next week.
Meanwhile, BoGs meetings will begin from September 6, soon after the declaration of Intermediate result scheduled for September 4.
The six colleges in the City have already displayed banners and notices for admission to 4 years BS Hons programme while the admission schedule will be advertised in the Press.
Higher Education Secretary Ahad Khan Cheema said that the BS (Hons) in colleges was being introduced in subjects already taught at two years BA and BSc.
