35 militants killed in Orakzai, Mohmand clashes
 
 
 
ORAKZAI AGENCY - At least 35 militants were killed during clashes with security forces in Dabori area of Upper Orakzai Agency and Baizai area of Mohmand Agency on Sunday.
According to details, Taliban attacked a check post of the security forces with heavy and sophisticated weapons in Dabori area of Upper Orakzai Agency, sources said. The security forces in retaliatory action targeted the militant hideouts with artillery guns, which resulted in the killing of 15 militants while six others got injured.
Meanwhile, at least 20 militants were killed and 30 others injured when security forces targeted their suspected hideouts with heavy artillery guns in Tehsil Baizai area of Mohmand Agency. Sources said that the clash erupted when armed militants attacked a check post near Pak Afghan border in Baizai area. The security forces repulsed the attack and in retaliation targeted their hideouts with sophisticated weapons, killing 20 Taliban and injuring 30 others. Two militant compounds were destroyed in the shelling.
According to sources, despite heavy snowfall and chilly weather in Dabori area, security force kept up military operation against the militants and targeted their hideouts. The sources added most of the areas of Orakzai Agency have been cleared of militants while about 10 per cent area including Sefal Darra, Kasha, Wood Mela, Mamozai and Ahang is still under their control. The security force are advancing further to these areas but facing tough resistance due to presence of landmines planted by Taliban.
It is worth mentioning here that Orakzai Agency operation was launched in January 2010. So far, around 1,280 militants have been killed and 539 others got injured. The operation also claimed lives of 48 security personnel including 12 high-ranking officers of army.
Agencies add: - According to sources, more than 40 militants armed with rockets and assault rifles stormed a check post in Salalah, Baizai Tehsil of Mohmand Agency.
Troops launched a counter-attack and killed at least 20 militants and wounded another 30 rebels, an official said.
