Rustam-e-Pakistan Dangal in Karachi after 61 years

KARACHI - The final of the Rustam e Pakistan Dangal will be held here on May 22 at Asghar Ali Shah Cricket Stadium where an earth filled special dangal pit has been created for the event which is returning to the city after a gap of 61 years. Giving the details of the event, the chief organiser of the event Sindh Sports Minister Dr. MA Shah announced at a media briefing held here at Karachi Gymkhana on Thursday afternoon that the final title fight would be held between Hamid Khan of Multan who would be representing Pakistan Railways and Usman Majid of Wapda who hails from Sheikhupura . The winner would get cash award of Rs.0.3 million and the runners up would get Rs. o.2 million. Nadir Dha of Pakistan Army and Naseem of Gujranwala would fight for third place. The winner of this fight would get Rs. 0.1 million. All the four pahalwans qualified to play in the final by winning their bouts from the first round to the semi finals which were held at different venues. The first round was held at Gujranwala, quarter finals at Faisalabad and semi final at Multan recently. He said the first Rustam e Pakistan Dangal was held in Karachi 61 years ago. The then Governor General of Pakistan Khawaja Nazimuddin was the patron of that dangal. He was also the main technical official of the event, the minister added. He said he would be the main technical official of the finals. As many as fifteen warm up fights would be held before the final title bout. Each of the pehalwans appearing in warm up fights would be given Rs. 20,000 while the technical officials would get Rs. 10,000.
