GPATI launch to help Pakistan’s economy


KARACHI - The Germany-Pakistan Training Initiative (GPATI) was launched in Karachi on the initiative of German Consulate General in Karachi together with eight German companies and two vocational training institutes, AMANTECH & IACT. The Consul General of Germany in Karachi Dr Tilo Klinner speaking on the occasion said the training initiative had been launched for the first time in Pakistan. He said the programme which is to start in early 2013, is founded on the renowned concept of Dual Training System that is implemented effectively throughout Germany and is also successfully applied internationally.
Dr Klinner said GPATI is being supported by the German Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ) through Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). He added that the objective of this unique training initiative is to produce a workforce that after going through this vocational programme is immediately productive and ready to take on the challenges of the industry.
The German envoy said participants of this programme will have a good balance of knowledge, skills and positive attitude. On the job training (OJT) is an essential element of this concept.
He pointed out that to ensure a regular stream of dedicated manpower, German multinationals like Siemens, BASF, Linde, Mercedes-Benz, Merck, Lufthansa Cargo/ Schenker, DHL have come forward and partnered in GPATI. Metro Pakistan is another company who will be joining soon. On successful completion, the programme will be replicated and extended to other multinational companies and will also be used by TEVTA for local companies. GPATI aims to build the capacities of the VTIs and employers in Pakistan to form partnerships for the implementation of German Dual Model of training. This will prove to be a milestone in creating skilled manpower and employment opportunities for the young people of Pakistan.
