Mobilink to invest $1 billion to improve service


LAHORE – SALMAN ABDUHU - The major telecom operating company Mobilink has planned to invest over $ 1 billion in the country with a view to enhance its voice and data services, paving the way to introduce 3G services in Pakistan, it was learnt.
The cellular company has also announced the signing of a five-year agreement with Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent for the design, purchase, deployment, and maintenance of next-generation mobile network equipment. In addition to a superior network performance, it also expects that the improved capabilities will allow the company to significantly increase network efficiency to enhance customer experience.
The company has also shared the views in this regard with the Raja Pervez Ashraf in a recent meeting between Jo Lunder, Group CEO and the PM.
Company’s officials said that telecom operator continues to have a positive outlook on its operations in Pakistan, having invested over $ 3.9 billion till date as part of its vision to reshape lives through connectivity. The additional investment of $1 billion is part of Vimpelcom’s aggressive plans to further consolidate its leadership position in Pakistan with the deployment of state-of-the-art next-generation mobile network equipment.
 “The investment on our mobile network is a continuation of promise made at the start of 2012 to create a paradigm shift in Pakistan’s cellular environment. Mobilink will sustain its focus on infrastructure investment, increased coverage and great customer relationship management to provide our valued customers with the best cellular experience in Pakistan,” Jo Lunder, Group CEO of Vimpelcom, highlighted. Ahmed Abou Doma, Group Chief Executive Officer of Orascom Telecom, added, “This strategic investment is part of our commitment to provide leading-edge, high-quality mobile broadband and voice services to our customers in Pakistan.”
The year 2012 has been another landmark year, with the investment on the mobile network upgrade being a continuation of Mobilink’s focus on the enhancement of infrastructure and coverage footprint as well as on developing superior customer relationships.
The investment plans follows the implementation of Intelligent Network (IN), which has enabled subscribers more control and freedom over their services, and provided a consumer experience that is the best in business.
The telecom company has witnessed unparalleled growth over the last few years as a result of a continued focus on investing in cutting edge technology, which has brought uninterrupted connectivity to over 36 million customers of Mobilink in 20,000 cities, towns and villages across Pakistan.
