Pakistan eyes enhanced co-op with Japan

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said that Japan is a valuable development partner of Pakistan and its ongoing assistance in various social, educational and health projects are of high value.
“The government is focused on creating sustained economic growth that would result in overall well being and progress of the people of Pakistan and in this endeavour, support from friends like Japan is highly appreciated,” said Prime Minister in a meeting with Hiroshi Inomata, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan.The Prime Minister said that his government looks forward to greater level of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas of trade, investment, development, energy and capacity building. While referring to his meeting with PM of Japan Shinzo Abe on the margins of UNGA session in New York last year, he said, “My meeting was very helpful in deepening understanding between the leadership of the two countries.” He further said that Pakistan looks forward to the visit of Japanese Prime Minister, which will complement efforts on both sides to further diversify and expand bilateral relations.
Nawaz Sharif further said that Pakistan appreciates Japan’s interest in Karachi Circular Railway project and Underground Metro Systems in Karachi and Lahore. During the meting views were also exchanged on educational exchange of students and energy projects in Pakistan.
