SIALKOT - Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan M Babur Hizlan has said that work on the establishment of honorary Turkish Consulate in Sialkot is underway and hopefully it would be operational in near future. Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here, he said the step was being taken to develop cordial relations with the business community of Sialkot aimed at enhancing the trade volume between Turkey and Pakistan. Turkey and Pakistan were enjoying highly cordial relations since long and these ties would be further strengthened with the passage of time, he said. The Ambassador said both the sides were making adequate efforts for find out the ways and means for the promotion of bilateral trade between the two countries, adding that the trade volume between Turkey and Pakistan was low at present. With the collective efforts of both the sides, trade volume could be enhanced for attaining the target, he said. About Islamabad- Istanbul ECO Train Service, he said would be operational by August 12, which would cut the time of goods transportation from Pakistan to Turkey. In his address of welcome, President SCCI Muhammad Ishaq Butt said that the ECO train service would reduce the time of goods transport from Pakistan to Turkey to 15 days from 40 days to help in promotion of bilateral trade. There was also a need to provide a permanent display centre of Pakistani products in Istanbul and to organize single country exhibition by Pakistan in Istanbul, he said. The SCCI President further stated that there is enormous scope for enhancing cooperation in economy, trade, tourism, science and technology. We believe that MoU has also been signed for facilitating the business people of the countries and according to MoU the business people of both the sides having valid travel documents are exempted from visa requirements and could stay in each others countries for 90 days without any visa, he added. Later, talking to media persons, the Turkish Ambassador strongly condemned the Israel attack on freedom flotilla.
