Denmark to expand commercial ties with Pakistan
 
 
 

ISLAMABAD : Danish Ambassador Jesper Sorensen has said that his country is keen to expand commercial and trade ties with Pakistan. In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan, he said the Commercial Section of the Embassy in Islamabad starts functioning from Monday to facilitate trade between the two countries. The Ambassador said he would go back to Denmark next week to meet different companies there to apprise them of business and investment opportunities in Pakistan.
In this connection, a seminar would also be held to update them on the latest economic developments and policies of the Pakistani government. The Ambassador said Denmark is providing economic assistance to Pakistan and is also supporting through a stabilization programme. He said the second development programme for the next three and a half years involved activities worth 50 million dollars especially in the fields of education and health. He said their main focus is on areas of conflict like KPK, FATA and Balochistan. He said Danish assistance has helped rehabilitate five hundred schools and more than one hundred and fifty thousand boys and girls are now in school courtesy to Danish funding in the areas. The Ambassador said together with the European Union, Denmark would be launching a new project in coordination with the Government of Pakistan for capacity building of statutory bodies in the four provinces. Here again the focus would be on capacity building of the human rights committees of the provincial assemblies. He said under stabilization programme, Denmark is providing support for capacity building of border control. Exchange programmes are also underway with National Defence University and FATA Research Centre.
