LAHORE -
Acting US Consul Jeffrey N. Bakken reiterated the US Government’s continued support for Pakistan rural and dairy economy while speaking at the International Conference on Institutions, Growth and Development in Lahore. The conference is collaboration between the US Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Dairy project and the Government College University (GCU).
“The conference demonstrates the significant role the US Government is playing in boosting Pakistan’s economy through our support for dairy, livestock and agriculture sectors,” stated Acting Consul General Jeffrey Bakken while addressing conference participants.
Through economic growth programmes, including the Dairy Project, USAID will increase employment and incomes for 250,000 farm households and over two million people by 2015. This three-year, $14 million project, will impact the lives of 9,000 small dairy farmers by enhancing their productivity and resulting in at least 10 percent increase in their incomes. The results will be improved milk productivity and increased incomes for rural dairy farming communities.
