RAWALPINDI – Egg prices are continuously soaring with regular drop in temperature as traders want to earn more money.
At present retail price for one dozen eggs is Rs.108 while in summer they were being sold at Rs.60 to 65. The customers put up questions to the authorities concerned and the government that why not the stern action is taken against those who want to sale daily use items including edibles at sky-rocketing prices.
Like several other items now, the egg prices are going out of reach of general public. “The situation needs that stern action must be taken against profiteers and they should be sent behind the bars and punished for charging more to the fixed rates of edibles. The negligence on part of authorities concerned encourages traders and retailers as well to charge their desired amount from the customers”, said Mumtaz.
“The recent increase in egg prices is attributed to increase in coldness and the prices are likely to increase again with an increase in their demand,” said Fahad a shopkeeper. With rains, egg prices would go up again,” he added. “Prices of everything are rising, tomatoes, onions, fruits and even milk and eggs have become more expensive within last few weeks, the shopkeepers are fleecing the public, but the authorities concerned have failed to take any action to bring down the prices, “ said Shamila, a housewife.
Consumers have urged authorities concerned to take action against those who are overcharging.
