LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that elements involved in electricity and gas theft deserve no leniency. He stressed upon speeding up campaign against electricity and gas theft and to nab the culprits irrespective of their status.
The CM was addressing meeting of Provincial Taskforce on electricity and gas theft at Chief Minister’s Office, here on Wednesday. Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government would continue its effective role for checking electricity and gas theft and action would be taken against electricity and gas thieves without any discrimination. He said that big fish involved in electricity and gas theft are being taken to task. He disclosed that electricity and gas theft of billions of rupees has been detected during the campaign. The Chief Minister said that the campaign of Punjab government against electricity and gas theft has yielded encouraging results and line losses are reducing during the campaign.
He directed that strict action should also be taken against the officials involved in electricity and gas theft and tempered meters should be got checked from Forensic Lab. The Chief Minister while constituting a committee headed by Provincial Secretary Law directed to submit recommendations within two days after considering all legal aspects for action against electricity and gas thieves. Chairman Provincial Taskforce Irfan Ali gave a briefing regarding action taken against electricity and gas thieves and informed that 282 persons involved in gas theft have been arrested during the campaign whereas gas theft of over Rs 3.35 billion has been detected. He further told that 889 persons involved in electricity theft have also been arrested.
