ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari has asked the newly appointed Governor State Bank of Pakistan Saleem Raza to make short and long-term plans to help revive national economy. The Governor SBP Saleem Raza called on the President at Aiwan-I-Sadr on Monday. Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin and Secretary Finance Waqar Masood Khan were also present in the meeting, an official release said. The President felicitated him for assuming charge of his new responsibilities as the Governor SBP. Zardari enquired about the short-term and long-term impacts of the measures taken by the government and the SBP for macroeconomic stability and infrastructure development. Raza apprised the President of his priority and the prevailing monetary policy. He said the SBP would play its role in containing the inflationary pressures and try to reduce the negative impact of tight monetary measures. Raza took over as Governor of the Central Bank last week after the retirement of Shamshad Akhtar.
