Pakistan Railways retrieve 2,757 acres illegally occupied land

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan Railways has retrieved 2,757 acres of its land from unauthorized occupants under a special campaign launched to remove encroachments last year. The comprehensive campaign was launched in February 2012 on the entire system for removal of encroachments and to retrieve railway land measuring 5,663 acres. According to Pakistan Railways here on Tuesday, in the first phase, railway land measuring 2,537 acres has been retrieved from unauthorized occupants during 2012-13 while in the second 220 acres land has been retrieved during last four months (June 2013-September 2013).
The Department said efforts are also underway to retrieve the remaining encroached land.
Currently, 2,906 acres of land is under illegal occupation over entire railway network and division wise break-up shows that in Peshawar 285.81 cares of land is under illegal occupation, Rawalpindi 97.715 acres, Lahore 870.712 acres, Moghalpura 42.325 acres, Multan 124.754 acres, Sukkur 657.114 acres, Karachi 209.663 acres and Quetta 617.827 acres.
