Virtual University's visit

LAHORE - A meeting of Standing Committee on Information Technology & Telecommunication was held in the Committee Room of the Virtual University, Head office, here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Ch Muhammad Barjees Tahir, MNA. Briefing on performance of Virtual University by its Management was the main agenda in which six parliamentarians including Talat Mahesar, MNA; Ch.Iftikhar Nazir, MNA; Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah, MNA; Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, MNA; Sajid Ahmed, MNA and Muhammad Akhtar Khan Kanju, MNA participated, says a press release. Dr Naveed A Malik, Rector Virtual University briefed the committee regarding the performance of the Virtual University. He informed that 66,000 students are enrolled in the University for the different academic programmes. He also briefed that a new system of the examination has been introduced for the quality assurance of the examination. He further informed that the progress since last visit of the standing committee on IT & T, the total campus has been increased from 146 to 185 all over the country. The committee appreciated the achievements of the Virtual University and suggested a survey may be conducted for the analysis of successful achievements of the University for the last eight years. The committee directed the Ministry of IT & T to write a letter to HEC that distance education mandate as given to Virtual University may not be given to any other University. The committee also directed the Ministry to brief the committee on this issue in its next meeting.
