Meeting to discuss mango export held
KARACHI (PR): SM Munir, Chief Executive, TDAP and Ms. Rabia Javeri Agha, Secretary of the Authority held a meeting with the PFVA, Sindh Mango Exporters and PHDEC on export of mangoes to the EU.
In this context, EU has recently imposed a ban upon import of mangoes from India due to the commodity containing fruit flies which rendered it unfit for human consumption besides spreading to other fruits and vegetables. The case of Pakistan is under review with the EU and they may extend similar ban to Pakistan also, if necessary measures were not taken to kill the bug. After thorough discussion of the issue, a working group was formed in TDAP comprising of PFVA, PHDEC and Sindh Mango Exporters to study the issue in detail and suggest measures, which could be adopted and enforced during the forthcoming mango season in order to avert the possibility of extension of similar ban upon export of mangoes from Pakistan to EU. The Committee is to finalise its recommendation within fortnight and will also associate representatives of Mongo growers from Punjab into its deliberation.
