Seminar on 'Emerging Trends in Global Trade'

KARACHI - A seminar was held under the title of changing Paradigm in Finance and Emerging Trends in Global Trade by the Karachi University Business School at the University premises on Saturday. Among the speakers, Vice-Chancellor Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddique, Dr. Abdul Rehman Zaki, Dr. Abuzar Wajdi, Pro Vice-Chancellor Clifford Lucas and Khalil Ullah Sheikh addressed the occasion. The Vice Chancellor congratulated the council of students of KUBS for holding a relevant and pertinent seminar in the present situation from which our country is going through. He told that the economic crisis has affected many countries of the world thus the need of the time is to aware people about their financial responsibilities as well. Zaki said that the escape from globalisation is not possible for Pakistan, as it has roots even in pre-Islamic era. The problem we are facing as a country is tremendous discrepancy between the export and import rate that is 4% and 35% respectively. Thus we need to concentrate on our own potential and resources to be a part of new world economy in which China is emerging as a South Asia economic power. The other guest speaker Khalil Ullah Sheikh, Director Finance KESC talked about the need of capitalization of opportunities available in our own economic resources, as it is necessary for the growth of local economy. He further said that China has proved, with the growth above 1 % GDP rate which is phenomenal, that through controlled economy any country can sustain any economic turmoil. The concept of' free economy is no more there, and therefore we have to produce our best in the limitations of WTO. He gave an example that we have got English speaking people and they can be hired by China at cheaper rates which will help us to reach global economy. He stated that the paradigm has shifted from USA to South Asia and global economic power is also shifting. On question he replied that KESC is safe at technical side, but the problems we are facing are relying on our own new generating resources. The government has directed us to create new resources for the sustenance of KESC. Clifford Lucas, vice president of Royal Bank of Scotland, presented an interesting talk related to having a positive attitude in every aspect of life, and that has a positive effect on audience too. He said that values, standards, attitude, motives, and ethics have an impact on your behaviour which is known to others therefore, one must be extrovert in today's world. Dr. Abuzar Wajdi praised the organizers and the faculty of KUBS for having such a remarkable seminar especially in the current situation of economic turmoil. He said that the faculty of Management and Administrative science is keen to make the students successful in their lives, as youth of every nation has to play an important role in the progress of country.
