LAHORE - The FBR Federal Revenue Alliance Union has appreciated the President, Prime Minister, Federal Ministers Khurshid Shah and Nazar Muhammad Gondal for accepting the longstanding demand of the union to upgrade income tax inspectors, asking the government to also fulfil demand of promotion of class four employees of the FBR.
FBR Federal Revenue Alliance Union said that the Inland Revenue Services department made the last promotions in 1982-83 and after this no promotion or up-gradation was made in and below the rank of income tax inspectors and Finance Division had now become the main hurdle in this regard.
FBR Federal Revenue Alliance Union central President Mian Abdul Qayyum in a statement said that it was pleasant news for the inspectors, who after a long period of around 30 years, were upgraded and credit goes to specially Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah, who has been fighting for the cause of FBR employees since the time when he was Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower & Oversea Pakistanis. The minister fulfilled his promise and we are thankful for his commitment. He also thanked Chairman Peoples Labour Bureau Ch Manzoor Ahmed and Advisor to President Navid Ch for taking initiative to resolve the issues at the government level. He suggested the govt to also give back FBR its autonomous status as was announced in 2007 act.
The union greeted the whole staff of inspectors’ cadre for their up-gradation to 16th scale from 14th, asking the government to issue notification earlier in this regard. He also hailed the efforts of the ruling PPP government, which provided all out support to the employees of FBR.
Mian Qayyum said that the workers have attached their hopes with the present government that it would also fulfil the longstanding demand of promotion of grade four staff. He said that the authorities should utilise best abilities to facilitate the employees who are collecting revenues for the government despite all odds.
He said that the FBR has big responsibility on its shoulders, as in the budget 2012-13 the revenue target has been enhanced. He said that like previous years the employees union would continue to support the FBR revenue collection drive.
He stated that FBR Foundation has been registered with Welfare Department on the longstanding demand of the union. Under this foundation, the employees will avail housing, health and education facility.
Along with appreciation, he lamented that the 93.5 per cent non-gazetted staff of the FBR has no representation in the management of the Foundation. He said that the union has already applied for changes in the basic rules of the Foundation. He urged the authorities to fulfil the union’s other charter of demand.
Qayyum also urged the authorities to take steps to expedite liaison with the workers, who are the backbone of the tax department.
