'Smooth power supply to textile sector top priority'

ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Textile Industry Rana Farooq Saeed Khan Saturday said the textile industry was the backbone of the country, as not only the economy was too much dependent on it but it was also providing 4 million jobs. In a press statement issued here, the Minister said the government was giving top priority to the industry. He said concrete measures had been taken to ensure constant power supply to the textile industry and Wapda authorities on January 6 had been advised in that regard. He said President Asif Ali Zardari had also taken very serious note of the situation and directed the SNGPL authorities to ensure 20 mmcfd of gas each to the textile industry located in Lahore and Faisalabad. He said Wapda AND SNGPL authorities had confirmed that concrete measures had been taken to combat loadshedding in the textile sector and the situation would become better during the next 10 days.
