Modern diagnostic tools increase profitability in farming

LAHORE - Secretary Livestock Punjab Dr. Amer Ahmed has said that despite paucity of resources, the public sector is providing better livestock facilities to farmers. He said this while speaking at the concluding ceremony of the training course on “Reproductive ultrasnography in domestic animals.” He also distributed certificates among the participants. The secretary appreciated the quality of training programs at UVAS and emphasized on scaling up the training courses which lead to economic growth and development. He said that the public sector was providing better services despite shortage of resources.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that ultrasonography was a modern diagnostic tool and use of such technology in commercial dairy farming greatly increased reproductive efficiency, consequently enhancing farm profitability.
He said the use of ultrasonography in detection of early pregnancy in cows and mares was becoming popular in commercial dairy farms and breeding studs. He said the UVAS is offering need-based training courses for all stakeholders in various areas including broiler farm management, sheep and goat business, commercial dairy farming and gift tilapia.
Department of Theriogenology Chairman Dr Mian Abdul Sattar said that about 50 practitioners had been registered from public and private sector across the country. This is the first ever training of its kind open to all and covering cows, buffaloes, sheep, goat, mare and canines, both theoretical and practical aspects, he said.
Dean Faculty Veterinary Science Prof Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan also spoke on the occasion.
