LAHORE - Punjab is expected to harvest bumper wheat crop this season as there are ample chances of surplus wheat yield against the estimated target of 19 million tons in the province. The crop production could be around 19.2 million tons and even more, the agriculture department sources told APP here on Saturday. They said that good weather condition and the incentives offered by the government to the growers have yielded results with the blessings of Allah Almighty. They said the government would not disappoint the growers during wheat procurement drive and they would get due return of their produce.
Growers profits impact a lot on their sowing plans for next crops and the Punjab government has taken number of initiatives to benefit the growers, they said.
Wheat procurement target for the year is fixed at 3.5 million tonnes but it could be enhanced keeping in view requirement of the growers, they said.
The agriculture department would continue watching interests of the growers and ensuring increase in agriculture production in the province, they said.
