Lahore - The SNGPL on Wednesday restored gas supply to Punjab textile industry after repair of transmission lines near Rahim Yar Khan.
The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited Managing Director Arif Hammed at a press conference here on Wednesday said the company would compensate the damages caused by the blown of three lines by the miscreants on Sunday night.
“We suffered a loss of Rs76 million due to wastage of 200 million cubic feet gas in 30km long pipeline after the sabotage activity,” said Arif Hameed, adding the other losses included the damage of cultivated land at 75 acres, killing of some cattle and a tragic death of a woman. He said the SNGPL would pay compensations to all losses and the matter would put before the company board. He said that inquiry was underway to know about the real causes of the incident. However, he added that 100 per cent safety of entire network was not possible but the company with the cooperation of security agencies was trying its best to avoid such incidents in future.
On a question, the company chief replied that SNGPL would follow the orders of Islamabad High Court regarding opening of CNG stations. He said the new schedule of gas load management would be announced in first week of March. He said the SNGPL was providing gas to power sector as per quota. To another question about discovery of new fields, Arif Hameed said that SNGPL would get 110mmcfd gas from MOL gas field in KPK and another 400mmcfd was expected from LNG import in November. At present, he told the reports, the SNGPL has had 1650mmcfd gas in its network and the shortfall was touching around 1200mmcfd. “From the available gas, 110mmcfd goes to textile industry, 70mmcfd to strategic industry, 1100mmcfd to household and the remaining goes to power and CNG sectors,” said SNGPL MD. Speaking on the occasion, APTMA Punjab Chairman SM Tanveer said that SNGPL saved 1.5 million jobs in textile sector by restoring the gas in 48 hours. He said that export had been increased by $3 billion in 2013 as compared to 2012 due to some supply of gas to industry.
