Rights of a psychiatric client

LAHORE – Love and affection is a one of the most prior needs for every person who born in this world, a baby who born in this cruel world don’t know anything what’s happening around him is there a war or a wedding, a screaming or a sound of hurrah! He only recognizes the love and affection of his /her mother who grasp her, and he feels himself safe in her lap. But as the days transforms into months and months converts into years the baby grow and he recognize that he is not a normal, not normal like a world he cannot think deep like others , he cannot be cunning, he can’t be selfish and he is not mentally so clever to negotiate with world to place himself. His brothers and sisters made fun of him and says again and again that he is not normal. Mental retardation is one of the most common congenital disabilities occurring in early childhood.in Pakistan the ratio of registered cases of mentally retarded children’s is become 3 to 5 children’s per 1000 children’s, and these children’s need more affection then others as they grow and become young adults they found in their own world by others because they don’t react in result of environmental stimulus. They don’t know how to react on death and how to show joy on any ones wedding. “The mentally retarded person has, to the maximum degree of feasibility, the same rights as other human beings.”(Proclaimed by General Assembly resolution 2856 (XXVI) of 20 December 1971)This is a stigmatic situation to know that in our culture in Asia those children’s who diagnosed earlier with mental retardation were killed by their own relatives or family members, and those who survived they got place in mental asylums not for their treatment because they don’t want to kill him but they also don’t want to take care of him because feel him burden on them. In order to review a socio-cultural impact of mentally retarded child on three categories of upper middle and lower class. The segregations were made on the basis of their area of living and monthly income basis because this comparison can lead us easily toward the reasons why they feel their children’s a burden on them. A person who is earning Rs 300/ day, he cannot afford his child instead of that person who is living in a bungalow and earning millions a day. And some old concepts of our elders also become hurdle between to care their children by their own.
