Farmers advised not to perturb with 1121 variety of rice

KARACHI - The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has advised SME farmers not to be perturbed with false information propagated by vested interest regarding damage to 1121 variety of rice grown by them widely this season and kept focus on their agenda of selling paddy to millers and parboilers as per their normal schedule step by step as global prospects look bright for Pakistani rice of all varieties. President Unisame Zulfikar Thaver said it is reported by growers that Sindh and Balochistan have managed to get a production of 3m ton of rice comprising of 2.5m tons long grain Irri 6 and Irri 9 and about 0.5m D 98 Basmati and Super Basmati and in Punjab and NWFP almost 3m tons of rice is expected comprising mainly of 1121, 386, KS 282 and Super Basmati. He said Pakistan has done well and comparatively India is having a shortfall due to poor monsoons and it is expected that this year Pakistan will be able to export more. due to lower rice production in India which is contemplating to increase the minimum export price of Basmati rice from $900 to $1100 per metric ton and some Indian legislators have proposed ban on Basmati exports. In fact, tAll India Rice Exporters Association has strongly protested to such statements and feared that the markets captured by India would be lost. Unisame has advised its SME rice exporters to build their inventory and make preparations to export value added rice of white and parboiled rice of Irri 6, 9, KS 282, 386, 1121 and Super Basmati rice all over the globe which now looks towards Pakistan for its requirements of good quality rice in both coarse and fine varieties.
