Different oil exploration and production companies plan to drill one hundred and ten wells during the current financial year to enhance oil and gas production in the country. According to officials‚ eleven discoveries of oil and gas have so far been made in the current year. Ministry for Petroleum and Natural Resources is working to award licenses for exploration at fifty blocks. The officials said that the government is encouraging investment in exploring unconventional hydrocarbon reserves including shale gas and shale oil. The USAID has agreed to provide technical assistance for exploitation of shale gas reserves. The government has approved three pilot projects to determine the country’s potential of shale and recoverable reserves.
