LAHORE - Pakistan Tanners Association Central Chairman Khurshid Alam has appreciated the efforts of the government as a result of which the trade concession have been announced by EU for 74 items including 2 items of leather and 4 items of leather gloves. He further expressed his dissatisfaction that a number of main items of leather including leather garments, leather footwear and leather products have not been included in the confessional list which are most essential to get access in EU markets. He stressed that this concessional package could be more beneficial if the concerned stakeholders would have been consulted before finalising the list of items included in the Trade Concession Tariff with EU because the leather industry will get negligible benefit from the above exempted tariff lines. He pointed out that the leather industry is already in acute crisis and affected by the following key issues and in these hard days, the recently allowed trade concession by the EU could not do much in resolving these problems. Khurshid Alam appeals the Govt to take stock of the situation and consider genuine demand for local protection and exempt tanning industry from large scale loadshedding.
