LAHORE (PR): Responding to a report published in newspapers Waheed Hamid, a representative of a leading fertilizer company has denied the perception being spread amongst the farmers that the fertilizer companies are fleecing growers by selling fertilizer at higher prices. The report said that Chairman Agri Forum has alleged fertilizer companies and dealers of raising fertilizer prices from Rs 1700 to Rs 1900 per bag in the market. He told that fertilizer manufacturers are ensuring timely delivery of fertilizer across Pakistan at the prices between Rs 1730 and Rs 1750 per bag.
The rates of fertilizers are being published weekly by the manufacturers in national and regional dailies and company price lists are also displayed with all authorized company dealers for the awareness of the farmers and the alleged price of Rs 1900 per bag of urea is not being charged by any fertilizer manufacturer in Pakistan.
He further said that the regulation of market prices and to guard farmers against any black marketing is the duty of the government. Moreover, to bridge the gap between demand and supply due to load shedding of gas the government must also plan to improve its import system or provide sufficient gas to the manufacturers to overcome the fertilizer shortage and control the price hike in the open market.
