Flour mills demand subsidy on wheat

KARACHI - Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) has demanded that government should allocate subsidy on wheat to ease the prices of flour in the market. Addressing the press conference at Karachi Press Club on Thursday, the Central Chairman of PFMA Iqbal Dawood Pakwala, Provincial Chiefs, Muhammad Yousaf from Sindh chapter, Bilal Aslam Suffi from Punjab, Zahoor Agha Khan from Balochistan and Muhammad Naeem But said that a robust production of 23 million tons of wheat is about to arrive in market, however a huge quantity of 5 million tons already lying in governments godowns. They said that price of Pakistani product is much above than international market, so the government should provide subsidy of Rs500 on 100 kg to supply old stocks to the flour mills aimed to reduce the prices of flour. The government should provide wheat at Rs800/40 kg to the flour mills across the country to provide relief to poor. They also demanded that government should lift ban imposed by the provincial governments on free movements of the commodity. The flour mills body said that storage capacity was also not much resulting in worsening condition of wheat stocks, they said. They further said that flour traders in Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan facing credit problems, so the SBP should ease the process of credit for the wheat traders in both provinces.
