Mepco to purchase 26MW electricity from private sector

MULTAN  - Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has signed an agreement with Jamal Din Wali Sugar mills for purchasing 26 megawatt electricity on the directions of Ministry of Water & Power and Alternate Energy Board.
A ceremony was held at MEPCO Headquarters in which CEO MEPCO Engineer Abdul Mateen Khan and GM Admin Jamal Din Wali sugar mills Muhammad Safdar Kanjoo signed agreement. The electricity taken from Jamal Din Wali sugar mills would be included in the system at the end of November 2013 while the price fixed Rs 10.40 per unit for 30 years.
The MEPCO is the only distribution company which signed agreement for purchasing electricity from private sector under federal government’s Bagasse, Bio-Mass, and Co-generation policy 2013.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEO MEPCO said thanked the Jamal Din Wali sugar mills for providing loan of Rs 70 million to MEPCO without interest for installing transmission line and the company would return it in next four years.
GM Admin sugar mills Safdar Kanjoo said that every Pakistani should play its role for eradication of energy crisis in the country. He said sugar mills administration was thankful of Ministry of Water and Power and Power which signed agreement with sugar mills first under fast track programme. Finance Director MEPCO Mian Ansar Mehmood, Project Director Shahid Hammed and Manger Commercial Imtiaz Ahmad were also present.
