PNAC DG for improving products quality

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan National Accreditation Counsel (PNAC) Director General Anjum Bashir has said that revival of country’s weak industrial and service sector was only possible after attaining accreditation status and improving quality of products. While talking to media after the end of Assessor Course for inspection bodies jointly organized by PNAC and Norwegian Counsel Norway here on Monday, Anjum Bashir said that this is the only way to support weak industrial and service sector and prepare them to face pressures of the world trade markets. “The emerging World Trade Order provides tremendous opportunities for business expansion for all enterprises, which are determined to compete on quality and those unable to do so, loose the market,” he said, adding that this has been evidenced at the time of close of quota era in early 2000 when economies which had prepared them for the challenge on the basis of quality benefited. The Director General went on to say that the performance of Pakistani entrepreneur will depend largely on their ability to acquire certification of their product and services from accredited bodies. He said that inspection bodies results can have important consequences for buyer and supplier alike, be it pre-shipment inspection or post-shipment inspection.

Incorrect results produced by an inspection bodies, can lead to major financial losses and more than that loss of credibility and business. Hence, government and regulators want to be confident that inspection bodies, especially those inspecting health and safety and customer protection issues are competent to do so.These efforts will ultimately bring improvement in the quality of our goods and services.  “I assure that such training courses will be organised in future also for the benefit of all stakeholders so that we can expedite the process of accreditation in the country, which in turn will give acceptability to products/services,” he said, adding that successful participants of Assessors course will become part of PNAC pool of assessment team as technical experts/ assessors to carry out assessments of inspection bodies.
