KESC employees demand regularisation

KARACHI - A large number of KESC employees, working on daily wages and contract, staged a protest demonstration under the auspices of the KESC Employees Unity outside the Karachi Press Club on Saturday to press the govt to regularise them. Since 1999, KESC has hired about 8,000 employees who assert that they are not getting medical and health facilities and other allowances and have not been promoted for the past nine years.  The KESC employees demanded that they should be made permanent and urged the govt to bring the KESC out of financial crisis. KESC Employees Unity, the union body, said that the administration should realise the problem being faced by the employees and should strive to provide them financial security. It may be mentioned here that the KESC is about to be handed over to Al-Abaraj Group. CEO Naveed Ismail was supposed to take command of the new post on Saturday but he will resume his charges on Monday morning.
