PIA to airlift relief goods free of cost

KARACHI - PIA will provide free-of-cost transportation of relief goods to Islamabad Peshawar from across the country and its foreign stations. On the instructions of Managing Director Captain Mohammad Aijaz Haroon, the PIA will now air-lift relief goods free-of-cost from within Pakistan and foreign destinations for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Swat and adjacent areas. The shipments will be accepted through Pakistani Consulates / Embassies, relief organisations, registered NGOs, charitable organisations and other government agencies upon receipt of request on organizations official letter heads. The relief goods to be carried free-of-cost by include: Life saving drugs / medical kits etc, Dry foodstuff, plastic bottled mineral water, tents and clothing (new only). The shipments will be accepted free-of-cost on PIA network only on point-to-point sector. In order to connect from point of origin other than the PIA sector, interlining / trucking charges will be borne by the shipper (consignor). All cargo will be delivered to respective designated authority at the PIA cargo terminals Islamabad and Peshawar while all onward transportation charges will be borne by consignee. All relief goods will be dispatched on first available service basis subject to availability of space without compromising on revenue cargo. The PIA employees had earlier contributed their one-day salary to the federal government relief fund, amounting over Rs 10 million.
