Naveed backs proposed LNG import

ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Syed Naveed Qamar, has offered wholehearted support for Punjab govts proposal for the LNG import to meet energy demands of the industrial sector of Punjab, that is presently going through an energy crunch. Syed Naveed Qamar was talking to the delegates while chairing a meeting with a delegation from the Punjab Government, headed by Rizwan Ullah Khan, Vice Chairman Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) that called on him here on Tuesday. In the meeting, the delegation discussed the ways and means of importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), preferably through the private sector, to mitigate the demand-supply gap being faced by the industrial sector in Punjab. The Government of Punjab expressed its resolve to play its role as a project facilitator and requested the Federal government to share its experience in the matter. As a result of the meeting, Syed Naveed Qamar constituted a 'working group comprising members from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, the gas utility companies, the Ministry of Ports and Shipping and the Govt of Punjab that would meet at Lahore shortly after Eid holidays, and is likely to finalise a project model in line with existing LNG Policy of the Government of Pakistan.
