ISLAMABAD - A high-profile delegation from the renowned Danish companies will visit Pakistan by the 1st week of June 2014 to explore the investment opportunities of the country, as Danish companies are showing keen interest in wind energy projects with capacity of 900MW.
Jesper Moller Sorensen, Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan said this while talking to special assistant to Prime Minister/ Chairman Board of Investment Dr Miftah Ismail and Secretary BoI Imran Afzal. The ambassador discussed the visit of Danish investors to Pakistan and the investment opportunities in wind energy.
SAPM/ Chairman BoI said that Pakistan has large, economically viable resources in wind, solar, biomass, waste, geothermal, and hydel power, waiting to be harvested.
He further said that wind with good to excellent speeds is available in many parts of the country, establishing a total potential of about 340,000 MW The Gharo - Keti Bandar wind corridor, in the South of Pakistan, having an approximate potential of 50,000MW is the most attractive to investors at this point due to good resource potential as well as its close proximity to major load centers and the national grid.  Secretary BoI apprised the delegation that the GoP has initiated an extensive wind energy programme to meet the increasing energy demand and to introduce Renewable Energy technologies in the country. The GoP has an ambitious target of having at least 5pc of the total power generation of the country that is 9700MW through alternative/renewable energy by 2030. Meanwhile,  Minister of State for Water & Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali has invited Danish companies to invest in Pakistan’s power sector. During a meeting with Danish Ambassador at his office on Thursday Ali said his government was offering incentives and healthy environment for foreign companies in energy and other sectors. He said Danish investors could also benefit from the investment in the energy sector of Pakistan. The state minister also expressed his desire to further strengthen the mutual cooperation between the two countries in the all sectors of economy.
Danish Ambassador Jesper Moller Sorensen appreciated the conducive and friendly investment environment provided by the present government in the Pakistan. He expressed hopes that Danish companies would invest in Pakistan’s energy sector.
