ISLAMABAD - A Divisional Bench (DB) of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday directed Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) to pay pensions to its 40,000 retired employees equal to the retired employees of the federal government.
The DB comprising Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan and Justice Noor-ul-Haq N Qureshi issued these directions while disposing of an Intra Court Appeal (ICA) moved by PTCL against the decision of a single member bench comprising Chief Justice IHC Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi.
In April last year, the single bench had directed the company to increase in the pensions of its retired employees and at par to the retired employees of federal ministries and attached departments.
The DB upheld the verdict of Justice Anwar Kasi and dismissed the ICA of PTCL.
PTCL pensioners association through their representative MH Aslam, contended before the court that despite the fact that the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication and Law Ministry had already recommended an increase in the PTCL monthly pension but the PTCL management did not comply with the directives. Petitioner prayed to the court to issue directions to the PTCL management to provide immediate relief to the pensioners by increasing their pension and paying them their arrears.
The counsel for the PTCL Naeem Bokhari advocate requested the court to set aside the judgment of single judge.
Some dozens of retired employees were present in the courtroom when the DB announced the judgment and they expressed their satisfaction and congratulated their fellows over the victory.
