ISLAMABAD - Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Climate Change will generate power through incineration of solid waste which will help to overcome the power shortage in the country. Implementation on Environment Policy 2005 will be ensured which recommends to phase out sulfur from diesel and furnace oil and provide alternate sources of energy, like piped natural gas, LPG, solar energy and microhydel power stations, to the local inhabitants to reduce the pressure on natural forest, and to substitute fire-wood in the upland ecosystems.
Both the ministries have joined hands for development of cost effective sewage treatment plants and industry specific biotechnological waste-water treatment processes.
“We will also develop catalytic converters for retrofitting vehicles for minimizing the emission problems”, an official of MoST told APP.
Besides, plan is to establish cleaner production centers and promote cleaner production techniques and practices to overcome environmental problems, he said.
MoST is also initiating projects to promote the use of ozone friendly technologies and phase out the use of ozone depleting substances in line with the provisions of the Montreal Protocol.
“Plan is to promote recycling of agricultural products associated with livestock production and use of livestock sector as an outlet for recycling of appropriate urban waste”.
“We will introduce adequate animal waste management system in peri urban dairy colonies”, official said.
