ISLAMABAD  -  Sixteenth meeting of the AIDC held on Tuesday to review cases of new entrants in the automotive sector. The meeting was under the Chairmanship of secretary ministry of Industries & Production. Representatives of EDB, Ministry of Industries & Production, Ministry of Science & Technology, PSQCA, PAMA, PAAPAM, PIDE, DART, NAVTTC, JICA, major OEMs including Toyota, Honda and Pak Suzuki and other stakeholders from auto industry participated in the meeting.
The committee reviewed cases of new entrants in the automotive sector including M/s Tayyaba Motors (Pvt) Limited for Mini Van/ Cargo Van/ Pick-up. M/s New Allied Motors (Pvt) Limited for Mini Van/ Mini Truck/ Pick-up/ single Cabin Diesel Engine, 2200 cc. The Committee also reviewed localisation plan issued for the manufacturing of automotive vehicles by M/s.  Al-Haj FAW Motors (Pvt) Ltd. The AIDC also deliberated upon a request made by Punjab Provincial Transport Authority (PPTA) to stop licencing for the production of 3-wheeler auto vehicle, 4-stroke motorcycle rickshaw.  Under the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1969 the specified seating capacity of motor cab rickshaw is not more than two, excluding the driver. However the said vehicle is largely overloaded and almost 15 passengers are seated even on the roofs and side support rods of the vehicle. This practice is often causing severe accidents resulting in deaths of innocent people. Since PSQCA is the relevant organisation, which revises the standards for the said vehicle, therefore, the Committee decided to refer the matter to PSQCA.
