UVAS, Tetra Pak, Delval sign MoU

KARACHI - Tetra Pak Pakistan, DeLaval and the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at a ceremony at the Syndicate Room of UVAS here on Saturday. According to the MOU, the collaborating organizations agree to: Conduct training for professionals, farmers and stakeholders on modern dairy farm management for improving quality and quantity of milk. DeLaval and Tetra Pak will assist UVAS dairy farm management degree/diploma students as internees at the farms of their customers; Tetra Pak in collaboration with its international resources will assist UVAS in development of Dairy Farm Management course and the parties would conduct any other programs, which can assist in the capacity building of farmers, professionals and stakeholders. Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management briefed the participants on the salient feature of MOU. Azhar Ali Syed, Managing Director, Tetra Pak Pakistan, in his address said, "Despite being amongst the top 5 milk producing countries in the world, Pakistan is lagging behind in productivity due to lack of know how and competence. This MoU offers the milk industry a great opportunity for improvement." Haroon Lodhi, Managing Director DeLaval, thanked the UVAS for their support and stated that knowledgeable manpower was the missing link, and that basic trained dairy farm workers could turn the dairy industry into a successful one, to the benefit of the entire nation. UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz highlighted the competence of the university in training and research and stated that the partners in this MoU would stand to benefit from the expertise that the oldest institution in the subcontinent is able to offer. The chief guest on the occasion Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan, Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Dept, expressed his satisfaction at the public private partnership and hoped for similar future initiatives that would help build bridges and bring prosperity to Pakistan.
