Brisk shipping activity at Port Qasim

KARACHI (APP) - Brisk shipping was observed at the Port where three ships scheduled to load/offload containers, cement and iron ore were allotted berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal and Iron ore & Coal Berth respectively on Tuesday. Meanwhile five more ships to load/offload containers, cement, palm oil and iron ore also arrived at outer anchorage of Port Qasim during last 24 hours. Berth occupancy remained at sixty percent at the Port on Tuesday where a total of six ships C.V. Maersk Delano, M.V. Ahmad Junior, M.T. Sao Paulo, M.T. Bunga Melati Satu, M.T. Overseas Rein Mar and M.V. Nord Vision were engaged at PQA berths to load/offload containers, cement, palm oil, diesel oil and iron ore respectively during the report period. A cargo volume of 63,742 tonnes comprising 42,609 tones import cargo and 21,133 tones export cargo inclusive of containerized cargo carried in 2,661 containers (TUEs) was handled at the Port during last 24 hours. Bulk cargo carrier M.V. Kaghan and oil tanker M.T. Oversea Rein mar sailed out to sea during last 24 hours while another container ship C.V. Maersk Belano is expected to sail on Wednesday. Three ships C.V. Hammurabi, C.V,. Inori and M.T. Sea Lion carrying containers and furnace oil are expected to take berths at Container Terminal and FOTCO Terminal respectively on Wednesday. Two ships M.T. Chemstar Venus and M.V. Shan Wan island are due to arrive at Port Qasim on Wednesday, 21st May while three more ships C.V. APL Alexandrite, C.V. Al-Mariyah and M.T. Navajo Spirit with containers and crude oil are due to arrive on Thursday, 22nd May 2008.
