LAHORE - Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority General Manager Afzal Anjum Toor has said that institutional reforms process will be expedited for the effective participation of farmers in canal management so that water requirements of farmers’ community could be fulfilled.
He stated this while presiding over a meeting regarding performance of the department. Deputy General Manager (Social Mobilisation) Syed Shaiq Hussain Abidi, Deputy General Manager (Finance) Najumusaqib, Deputy General Manager (Operation) Mian Abdul Resheed and field officers were present on the occasion.
Talking about the constitution of farmer organisations in Lower Chenab (West) Area Water Board Faisalabad, General Manager PIDA informed that after the election of 38 farmer organisations, canal management has been handed over to them. He also directed to complete election of other organisations as per schedule. Expressing satisfaction over awareness regarding modern techniques of water conservation in Chiniot, Bahawalnagar and D.G Khan districts under SIAB Project of JICA for the assistance of farmer organisations.
, Afzal Anjum said that due to this project, farmers have succeeded to save up to 50 percent canal water. He said that soon the steps will be taken along with Agriculture Department to introduce the farmers with this project.
