SNGPL enhances duration of gas supply suspension

LAHORE - The SNGPL has enhanced the duration of gas supply suspension to industries as well as CNG stations in Punjab owing to annual maintenance work at some gas fields. The gas supply suspension duration to industries was increased to three days from earlier one day while the supply to CNG stations will be suspended for two days in a week. The Sui Northern Gas Company Ltd (SNGPL) announced gas holydays by dividing Punjab into four zones. The gas supply will be cut on rotational basis to all four zones. The SNGPL authorities said that industrial sector has to face holidays due to annual maintenance work at Zam-zama Gas filed. An official Rehan Nawaz while talking to The Nation said that due to annual maintenance of Zamzama Gas Field the gas shortfall was 155 million cubic feet. He added that start of winter season also increased shortfall of about 350mcf. He said that factories in Lahore, Faisalabad, Shaikhupura and Multan zones will face cut in gas supply three days in a week on rotational basis during next month. Similarly, all CNG stations of the province would remain close two days a week. He said the schedule of loadshedding will revisit after maintenance of Zamazam field. Zamzama Gas Field has the capacity of producing 500 million cubic feet of gas while its closure will affect the industries of Punjab mostly but the industries of Khyber PK will not be affected much with the closure, the source said. Meanwhile, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Punjab criticised the Sui Northern Gas Company Ltd (SNGPL) decision for gas holidays schedule for textile industry.
