FDI increases with strengthening IPR

ISLAMABAD - Former Chairman IPO-Pakistan Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has said that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) increases with strengthening of Intellectual Property Rights and the strict enforcement of laws can provide conducive environment for investment in Pakistan.
He stated this while addressing roundtable discussion about Intellectual Property Rights organized by US Embassy Economy section at Islamabad.
The representatives of business community, American Business Council, IP Attorneys, diplomats and heads of multinational participated in the session. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi who is Ex-Federal Minister for Environment pointed out the core issues being confronted to check counterfeiting and piracy and stated the IP regime in Pakistan should adopt stringent measures for building respect of Intellectual Protection.
Referring to legislations in this regard, Afridi underlined the
need of close coordination among stakeholders to protect the rights of legitimate right holders and also asked IP experts and attorneys to join hands for creating awareness about IP rights. The representatives of various organizations also participated in the discussion and expressed their view point relating to IP laws enforcement.
