LAHORE (OUR STAFF REPORTER): The Wapda is committed to complete under-construction phase-I of Kachhi Canal Project at the earliest despite financial constraints and difficult law and order situation in the project area, said the authority chairman Syed Raghib Abbas Shah on Tuesday. During his visit to project area, he said that Kachhi Canal was a mega water-sector project, which was of immense importance for development of irrigated agriculture in the country, particularly in Balochistan. “Wapda is making all-out efforts to provide water to Dera Bugti district of Balochistan province ,” he said.
Wapda chairman said that the projects, like Kachhi Canal, are vital for socio-economic uplift in the backward and far-flung areas, thus require commitment and hard work. He expressed the hope that all officials, who were associated with Kachhi Canal Project in one way or the other, will put in their extraordinary efforts coupled with national zeal to help complete the project. Expressing satisfaction over the pace of work on the project, the chairman directed the project authorities to maintain close yet effective coordination with all stakeholders of the project including the contractors and local administrations. This will help expedite work to achieve the targets according to the schedule, he added. Earlier, the chairman, during his two-day visit to the project, inspected various sites, stretched over hundreds of kilometers in Balochistan and Punjab provinces, and witnessed the on-going construction activities. Wapda Member (Water), General Manager (Central) Water, Project Director, representatives of the contractors and other officials concerned were also present on the occasion. It was briefed that the construction work with an accelerated pace is continuing on all sites of the project. The volume of construction activities can be gauged from the fact that more than one thousand heavy construction machines are simultaneously working on various sites.
