Merck launches calendar

LAHORE - Merck (Private) Limited has launched its calendar 2011 at the Darbar Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Karachi. The event was attended by foreign diplomats, leading medical specialists, pathologists and delegates from pharma, food and textile industries, says a press release. Merck kept its promise of continuously promoting the art and culture of the country by selecting the paintings of Ghulam Rasool for its calendar 2011. Along with the display of the 2011 calendar the company also displayed the calendars it has launched since 2003 which portrays the work of artists like Guljee, Bashir Mirza, Sadeqain, Bashir Ahmed etc. Ghulam Rasool's art spanning from decades has always been appreciated not only by the critics and art lovers, but he has also touched a chord with the common man in Pakistan. In painting, the artist finds an audience that grasps and understands him. The paintings, selected for the calendar by Merck, depict these landscapes and various plants in the real natural conditions. In the capacity of a teacher in Pakistan and the United States, during his tenure in the Pakistan National Council of the Arts from 1947 to 2002, Ghulam Rasool has been personally and professionally devoted to the promotion of the arts. This calendar is humble endeavor to pay tribute to one of Pakistan's greatest landscape painters. Abdul Baqy Khan the Managing Director of Merck speaking on the occasion said that Merck will continue to support the art and culture of the country by supporting the excellent work of the Pakistani artists. He also mentioned that the calendar has being printed on the most modern machine which really shows the good printing facilities available in Pakistan as well as the support given by the Merck Pakistan team to develop the printing technology in the country.
