PTDC committed to promote tourism

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Federal Secretary Tourism Shahid Rashid chaired a high level meeting at PTDC head office here on Tuesday. The Secretary Tourism appreciated PTDC officials for their efforts to promote tourism in the country. He said that PTDC stands committed to promote tourism not only on domestic scale but also on international level. He added that PTDC has a vision to enhance and revive tourism despite all odds. He directed the officials to implement the decisions of Inter-Provincial Tourism Ministers meeting and explore possibilities to prepare a strategy for income generation from commercial units. He directed that a viable proposal on bail-out package may be prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Tourism, which would forward it to the Ministry of Finance for approval. The meeting was attended by the General Manager F&A Saeed Abbas Ansari, General Manager (planning &Develop-ment)Mr.Abdul Wahab Khan, General Manager PTL ifthikhar Hussain Satti, Sheikh Fayyaz Ahmed Manager (P&A) mr. Ali Akbar Malik Manager (TCs) Abdul Rasool Zahidi Manager Accounts(HO) Mr Khadim Ali Asim Manager Accounts (PTL) Mohammad Inayat Project Engineer, Mr Tayyab Nisar Mir Acting Manager Publicity &Promotion, Mr Anwar Sajid Incharge PTL and Mr Adil Zaidi Acting Controller (F&A) Motels. Mr. Sareer Mohammad Khan, Managing Director PTDC apprised the Secretary the overall performance of PTDC during the last five years. Mr Abdul Wahab Khan briefed the Secretary about the steps being taken by the PTDC for the promotion of tourism. The Secretray was informed that PTDC participated in six international and eight domestic tourism events during 2009 and 2010 in order to create the awareness about tourism attractions of Pakistan. He added that PTDC is developing a number of tourism projects in the areas where private sector is shy to invest in addition to develop 7 Tourist Facilitation Centers at all provincial headquarters including Islamabad, AJK and GB. He informed that PTDC Motel Balakot,which was completely destroyed during the earthquake of 2005 has been reconstructed with 8 rooms and a restaurant with parking facility. Mr, Saeed Abbas Ansari General Manager informed the meeting that subsidiaries of PTDC are suffering from losses due to present law and order situation in the country. Therefore, the government should consider a special bail out package for the sake revival of tourism in the country. Mr, Ifthikhar Hussain Satti Gneral Manager PTL/motel briefed that PTDC Motels is the largest chain of Motels in Pakistan. For Promotion and development of tourism most of PTDC Motels are established in remote areas where private sector is shy to invest. Despite higher operational costs and limited tourist season, PTDC Motels are providing comfortable, reliable and quality accommodation to tourists. In fact, they have been proved to be pioneers and trendsetters offering an example for the private sector to follow. He also added the Pakistan Tours Limited is operating International routes from Pakistan to India and China in order to fulfill the bilateral commitments made by the Government. PTL has introduced special discounted tour package for students and families in order to promote domestic tourism in the country.
