PESHAWAR (APP) Senior executive vice president and chairman NBP exchange company, Khalid Bin Shaheen has urged the expatriate Pakistanis for using legal channels for the transfer of their remittances to strengthen the national economy. Talking to media here during his visit to NBP Deans Trade Centre branch, he said that the National Bank Pakistan has recently launched two schemes for money transfers in the name of Xpress cash and Xpress money transfer for the expatriate Pakistanis to attract maximum remittances to the country.He said that NBP has entered into agreements with banks in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar for the speedy and secure transfer of the remittances. The facility is available free of service charges. He said that NBP is the strongest national bank and due to its strong position expatriate Pakistan has confidence in it and sending their remittances through it is the practical expression of their confidence in the bank. The bank, he said has started the work on the transactions of remittances last year and have 3000-4000 monthly transfers and more improvement is in progress. The NBP, he said is competing all commercial banks in the transfer of remittances and is not forefront in this national cause, which is second life line for the national economy. The foreign exchange strengthens the country therefore, he said they are running a campaign for creation of awareness in the people. He said that a large number of the people Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are working in Middle East and other regions and due to lack of awareness maximum transactions were made through the illegal business Hundi. However, he said that the awareness campaign has cut down the ratio. The home remittances, he said are increasing 30 to 40 per cent annually as a large number of Pakistanis are going abroad and sending foreign exchange from those countries. He said that Pakistan has become No.1 country of the world in remittances, which is 40 per cent and we are confident that the people and media will carry this national cause with sincerity. The NBP official urged the expatriates to send maximum funds to provide relief to the flood affected people of Sindh. He said that the bank is in the forefront of provision of assistance to the flood affectees and have donated their four-day salaries in this regard. He said that the medical teams of the bank are performing services in the flood affected areas. To a question, he said that money transfers are strictly monitored and their no risk for those sending money.arrangements have been made for keeping check on the capability of the remitter and purpose of the remitting. The illegal use of the transferred money is looking impossible in the system.
