OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Top LPG producers on Tuesday decreased liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices by about Rs 16,000 per metric or Rs 15 per kg due to considerable decrease in demand. This was said that JJVL and OGDCL cut prices by Rs 78600 and Rs 82,646 per metric ton respectively to Rs 65,000, while PARCO brought down per metric ton price from earlier Rs 82600 to Rs 68000 per metric ton. All Pakistan LPG Distributor Association said the marketing companies, following the announcement of producers, slashed prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs15 per kilogramme in Lahore and other cities due to considerable decrease in demand. In Lahore, 11.5 kg domestic cylinder price came down from Rs 1230 to Rs 1050, while the per kg gas price reached Rs 100. Despite no change in prices in international market, the producers had to drop the prices due to decrease in demand, said the associations Vice-chairman Attique Khan while taking to The Nation. We are not importing LPG from any country, the producers link the local price with international Saudi Aramco Contract Price, he said. However, he added, the smuggled Iranian LPG of 100-150 tons per day was also finding its way to Pakistan. He predicted the consumers will definitely see further cut in prices in coming days. This is important to note here that unlike other petroleum products, LPGs domestic price levels are typically determined once a month based on movements in world contract prices. Currently countrys local gas production ranges between 1,000 and 1,100 tons per day which is enough to meet the current demand of same quantity, he informed. Attique said the Saudi Aramco Contract Price fluctuates every month and in case it goes down next month, 'consumers would definitely witness further cut in prices. He was of the view that the local demand decreased when the producers announced rise in prices on May 3. Had they (LPG producers) not raised prices on May 3 by linking Saudi Aramco, there would have been chances that market remained stable. The prices declined due to unsold stocks, he added. He appealed the government for pushing the producers not to link local price of LPG with international market in future.
