OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - The Indus Motor Company (IMC) has claimed that the company has made the purchases of around Rs22 billion from the local vendors in 2010-11, as the assemblers have always extended support to local parts makers. This was stated by CEO of IMC Parvez Ghias, during a media briefing on the opening day of Pakistan Auto Parts Show 2011. Ghias congratulated PAAPAM on organizing an excellent Auto Parts Show and expressed hope that the show will attract local and foreign investors and the local auto industry will get support from the government and policy makers, which will open doors for exploring foreign markets. Ghias said that IMC has put in a lot of efforts and investment in developing the engineering base and enhancing the skill sets of local engineers, which has helped IMC to achieve 50 percent localization on average so far while the journey is still on. While sharing the statistics, he said, IMC has given the business volume of Rs22 billion to local vendors on purchases in the fiscal year 2010-11 procuring parts and assemblies for its various models. Ghias informed that IMC has alone established 60 vendors so far and the company is their permanent buyer. Besides, IMC has arranged 34 technical assistance agreements for transfer of technology, he added. He reassured the local vendor community of IMCs commitment to continue its efforts to achieve maximum localization which is economically possible and asked the vendors in return to continue meeting the quality standards and delivery targets.
